Rest and Humor

It is important to learn how to rest.  You may have to change your thinking on what rest means.  Rest is not thinking about anything and learning how to relax.  One of the biggest challenges with chronic pain is getting adequate sleep because of pain. Abstaining from alcohol and not eating prior to sleeping is one way to sleep better.  Staying up past the time you feel tired can cause problems for a good nights sleep.  In order to properly heal, rest and sleep is important and helps alleviate chronic pain.  If you have not learned how to relax Chronic Pain Resource has classes to help you learn this important tool.

Finding Humor

Rather than feeling inadequate and self conscious about yourself, finding humor in your situation can be very healing. If you can laugh at some of your limitations rather than being frustrated your frustration and stress level will lessen. It is normal to have good days and bad days, and is essential to remember this is normal. Not being so serious can be very helpful for those helping and supporting you, remember it is hard on them seeing what you have to endure.  Learn to find the silver lining, there always is one.
