One of the biggest problems with chronic pain is being misunderstood. It is up to you to keep your composure even when you feel bad. Too many times people in chronic pain can end up in jail for various reasons. Problems can occur if you are on narcotics and carrying narcotics while driving. An even bigger problem is drinking in combination with narcotics to relieve the pain. One reason for irrational thinking is the emotional and physical burden that chronic pain has, and medication and or the combination of alcohol can bring out the worst in anyone. If you are hospitalized and put in a ward for psychiatric evaluation it will go on your record as a 5150 and the state does not tell you.
If you are ever hospitalized it is important that you check with your State Dept. of Justice to see if you have been put on the list. There is a process in getting a 5150 removed from your record and many times you can not get it removed. A 5150means you are a risk to yourself and or others. We can not express the importance of keeping your mind and emotions intact. And anything you say and do can be held against you. If anyone has a question, please contact Chronic Pain Resource for further information. For contact information in the state of CA regarding your status contact the Dept. of Justice at:916-227-6165
